Rickenbacker Model 330 Capri Semi-Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1959)

Rickenbacker Model 330 Capri Semi-Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1959)

Rickenbacker Model 330 Capri Model Semi-Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1959), made in Los Angeles, California, serial # 2T386, Autumnglo sunburst finish, maple body, laminated maple neck with padouk fingerboard, original grey hard shell case.
Overall length is 39 3/4 in. (101 cm.), 15 in. (38.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 in. (5.1 cm.) in depth at side. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).

This is a truly splendid example of a very early Rickenbacker Capri in extremely fine original condition overall. There is very little playwear visible and no alterations or serious repair. The lacquered fingerboard and the frets show very little wear, and it does not appear the guitar has been played extensively in its almost 60 years on earth (the pots are dated 10th week of 1959).

There are some small dings and chips to the beautifully shaded Autumnglo finish, but overall it remains vibrant with very little fade. The two biggest dings on the top have been lightly touched up, and the back shows an area where it looks like something rested against the finish for a time in the case; this is very subtle, but can be seen on close inspection.

This is a fantastic-playing guitar with a big chunky neck (for a Rickenbacker) and an excellent neck angle, often a sore point of these early Capris. All the hardware and electronics are completely original except a couple of the screws holding in the jackplate. The wiring still retains the "bleed" cap on the lead pickup, which thins the sound of that position somewhat. Some players routinely prefer to remove this, but we have (as always) elected to not make any alterations to this beautifully original instrument.

This is definitely one of the finest Rickenbackers we have ever had. It is a gem and exceptionally striking in its more subtly shaded finish. It includes the original greenish/grey case also in very fine condition, and a nicely preserved original Rickenbacker strap. Excellent Condition.
