Fender Deluxe Model 5C3 Tube Amplifier (1953)

Fender Deluxe Model 5C3 Tube Amplifier (1953)

Fender Deluxe Model 5C3 Model Tube Amplifier (1953), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 1335, tweed fabric covering finish.

Height is 16 1/4 in. (41.3 cm.), 18 in. (45.7 cm.) width, and 8 5/8 in. (21.9 cm.) deep.

This is an early example of a wide-panel tweed Deluxe, one of Fender's all-time classic amplifiers. The tube chart and chassis in this amp carries the code stamp "CK", showing the production date was November 1953. The masking-tape with the assembler's signature remains inside the chassis, but the writing is no longer legible.

There has been some typical cap work but the circuit remains original. The cord is a new 3-prong and the tubes are a mix of old octal preamp tubes and newer power tubes. The original pots date to the 45th week of 1953.

The original lacquered tweed covering has some wear but nothing extreme, mostly fraying to the edges. The handle currently on the amp is the original style but there are marks from an early '60s-style "dog bone" bracket on the top of the cabinet as well. Unfortunately, the control plate appears to have had the chrome surface over-cleaned at some point and most of the original stenciled graphics are gone.

With the original single 12" blue Jensen (this one dated 43rd week of 1953) still intact, the 1953-4 Deluxe is simply one of the best small club gigging and general recording amps ever designed. This one has seen its share of work but is in more original condition than many survivors and remains a fine-sounding amp, both clean and cranked to "12"...yes, that's one past "11." Generally well-maintained, and an amp ready to rock for another 60+ years. Excellent - Condition.
