Flange & Resonator Banjo Ukulele (unlabelled) , c. 1927
Flange & Resonator Model Banjo Ukulele (unlabelled), c. 1927, probably Chicago, natural lacquer finish, mahogany rim, neck and resonator, ebonized fingerboard, gig bag case.
Overall length is 23 in. (58.4 cm.), 8 in. (20.3 cm.) diameter head, and 3 in. (7.6 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 13 7/8 in. (352 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/16 in. (30 mm.).
Very nice playing condition overall with some general play wear, some loss and corrosion to the plating, and clouding to the neck finish. There is one small repaired laminate crack on the top side edge of the resonator, and a chip off the pearloid at the very tip of the headstock. The wooden nut has a couple of chips and the instrument shows one oddity -- the headstock facing was originally set too high for the strings to properly clear it, so someone added slots to the headstock to allow the strings to lay in the nut slots low enough to play well. It's a bit inelegant, but works fine and the instrument plays very well. A fairly high-grade "catalog" banjo ukulele with better grade hardware, a rather "mini-tenor-banjo" feel, and quite a good sound. Excellent - Condition.
