Fender Mustang Solid Body Electric Guitar (1965)
Fender Mustang Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1965), made in Fullerton, California, serial # L64089, Daphne Blue lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original grey hard shell case.
This is a super attractive and extremely well-preserved Fender Mustang, made in early 1965. This was just weeks into the CBS era at Fender and only six months after the model's debut in the second half of 1964. The Mustang was Fender's classiest student guitar, based on the Duo-Sonic but with the new "Dynamic" vibrato tailpiece and floating bridge. The model hit at just the right time and was instantly successful, and ever since has proved a timeless favorite of countless garage bands from the 1960's and 70's until today.
The body on this example sports a lovely blue lacquer finish with some yellowing and fade and the pickguard is laminated plastic with a white pearloid top layer. The neck date is March 1965, with an L-series serial number and the pots coded to the 12th week of the same year. The early Mustang remains an American classic and still a great deal in an original 1960's Fender guitar!
Overall length is 39 1/2 in. (100.3 cm.), 12 1/4 in. (31.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 in. (610 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/2 in. (38 mm.).
A nice clean guitar overall; the finish is very nicely faded with a more greenish tint than some and there are a few chips to the edges. The bridge saddles show some corrosion but the other hardware is still nicely preserved. The guitar has been played but very well cared for; the frets have been crowned down a bit, the fingerboard has very light divoting, and the back of the neck shows some wear, but playability remains excellent. This lovely Mustang remains all original with no repairs or alterations, complete including the nearly always missing chrome bridge cover. The original case is included, a bit more worn than the guitar but still fully functional. Excellent - Condition.
