Gibson ES-335TD Semi-Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1968)
Gibson ES-335TD Model Semi-Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1968), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 517324, sparkling burgundy finish, laminated maple body, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black hard shell case.
This is a simply superb example of the classic later 1960's ES-335TDC, sunburst finish that was a option specific to the period but still not seen as often as the standard cherry. The instrument's other features are typical for 1968, with chrome-plated hardware including the Tune-O-Matic bridge with nylon saddles, trapeze tailpiece and two Gibson humbucking pickups with patent number sticker on the bases. Other typical appointments include enclosed Kluson Deluxe tuners with double-ring plastic buttons and the "amp" style black molded plastic knobs. The bound rosewood fingerboard has pearloid block inlay and the nut width is the narrow 1 5/8" width adopted in late 1965. A fantastic find in a great playing and sounding time capsule guitar!
Overall length is 41 3/4 in. (106 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.).
This very clean 100% original Sunburst 335 appears to have been little played or even taken out since 1968, and likely has been put away for a long time. There are some tiny dings, handling wear spots and a bit of the typical checking but that's about it. It's also a very fine player, with an excellent neck angle and a pair of hot patent # pickups. One of the most spectacularly well preserved '60's Gibsons we have had in a while, still living in its clean yellow-lined original HSC. Near Mint Condition.
