B & J Serenader Soprano Ukulele, made by Harmony , c. 1928
B & J Serenader Model Soprano Ukulele, made by Harmony, c. 1928, made in Chicago, natural mahogany finish, mahogany body and neck, original canvas soft shell case.
A very nice 1920's Mahogany uke with particularly attractive labeling-there is a color decal on the headstock and a label with lovely muted printing both depicting a troubadour serenading his balcony-borne lady. Bugeleisen & Jacobson were one of New York's' biggest jobbers in the 1920's; the Serenader was one of their medium-prices and most popular instrument lines. The uke is fairly plain but good sounding and nicely made ukulele, well preserved with a sweet sound.
Overall length is 20 3/4 in. (52.7 cm.), 6 1/2 in. (16.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 3/8 in. (6 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 13 in. (330 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/2 in. (38 mm.). Very clean overall; some light wear and a few chips in the headstock decal. All original except for an added string ball in one of the bridge slots which was slightly worn. A very good playing uke; includes an original but non-functional canvas case. Overall Excellent Condition.
